How Newbies to Home Internet Marketing Can Deal With the Competition

By John Baril

A great way to get involved in home Internet marketing is with affiliate marketing. One of the biggest problems that new affiliate marketers face, however, is the high amount of competition.  High competition comes about because when someone sets up an affiliate program, it's in their best interest to have as many affiliate marketers sign up as possible to sell their product. The most popular affiliate products on the Internet have literally thousands of affiliate marketers competing with each other to sell the most and earn commissions. This is the intention of the product owner, but it's not always a good thing for new affiliate marketers who are trying to make their first sale with their home Internet marketing business.

How can new affiliate marketers get past this problem? Let's take a look at some possible solutions.

1. Make sure you first do some research before setting up your home Internet marketing business. There are literally thousands of affiliate programs out there within every niche market you can think of. So, find a niche market that is big enough and lucrative enough to make money in. There should be several affiliate products for you to promote, but it shouldn't be saturated with too much competition.

2. Don't hide yourself. The Internet is, unfortunately, too anonymous at times. Just think of all the websites that you visit where you have no idea who the owner is. There's a good chance that a large chunk of your competition is trying to sell products from websites full of impersonal sales hype and zero personal input. Get personal and stand out and ahead of the competition.

Be upfront about who you are. People like to buy from people who they feel they know and have something in common with. So be brave, put a photo of yourself with your real name on your website. Even better, if you have a web cam, make a two minute introductory video in which you introduce yourself and your business to your website visitors.

Give your visitors clear contact information so that they can follow-up with any questions they may have after looking at your website content. By making yourself available to them, you're offering them a service which they may want to use and may come to appreciate.

3. Avoid trying to simply sell affiliate products on your home Internet marketing website. Instead, find a way to offer something unique in addition to, and ahead of the affiliate products that you're planning to sell. This could be a unique niche product of your own, or it could be in the form of information, such as an audio or video production, or an e-book or e-mail course.

In fact, the more of these unique "front end" products that you can offer, the more likely you'll succeed in selling affiliate products on the "back end" as follow-up sales.  When you offer something unique, you're setting yourself apart from the competition. You're showing your market that you have the expertise and the ability to produce something that is unique and is also relevant to the needs of your market. This gives you tremendous credibility in the eyes of your potential customers.

Master these basic techniques and you'll set yourself way ahead of much of your competition, and you'll be much more likely to succeed in your home Internet marketing business.  Learn more about Internet business opportunities at Work From Home and sign up for the free newsletter course.  Also, check out John Baril's online training blog at: Online Marketing
